Online AP Chinese Preparation Class
1. Online AP Chinese Preparation Class
- Students should know 800-1200 Chinese characters. You may take an evaluation at http://www.ewritechinese.com/evaluation/
- The Class are held on Zoom Sundays at 11:00-12:30 Central Time in a small group setting. Fall semester is from mid August – December and the Spring Semester goes from January -May.
- Students must have online access and a Google account. All assignments including speaking and writing must be uploaded to Google Drive.
- Students must purchase 2 textbooks: Strive For a 5: AP Chinese Practice Tests;and A Study Guide to the AP Chinese Language & Culture Test.
- One semester students have 17 weeks of classes per semester; two semesters to complete both textbooks. For those who have missed classes, the current class video is available for make-up. Please contact us and refer to Syllabus-Group for detailed information.
- Other optional class Students at a higher Chinese level who want to self-study but still want feedback on assignments, can choose a self-study option (require Syllabus-private and discuss individually).
2. Registration, fee, and refund policies
- Registration - Students; interested in taking an online AP Chinese Preparation class should register online to sign up. Students also need to purchase the two textbooks required.
- Tuition for small group class- $425 tuition per semester can be paid online with Zelle or via check (mailing address will be shared after sign up).
- Tuition for individual self-study- $250 tuition per book with 4 possible 30-minute timeslots for 1-on-1 private tutoring on Zoom.
- Cancellation/Refund Policy:
- A $50 processing fee is charged if the student cancels the program before the first class.
- Up to 50% of the tuition can be refunded if the student quits after the 1st class and before the 2nd class.
- Up to 25% of the tuition can be refunded if the student quits after the 2nd and before the 3rd class.
- No refund if the student quits after the 3rd class.
eReading Chinese Class
1. eReading Chinese Class
- Students should know at least 300-500 Chinese characters. You may test and find out your score via http://www.ewritechinese.com/evaluation/
- The reading books content 99-178 essays, each essay has 10 questions, each question has 4 multiple choices.
- Students must have online access. All questions and answers will be submitted online, and graded online.
- Students must purchase a book to read. You have 16 books to choose from, 6 books for Basic level, 5 for Intermediate and 4 for advanced.
- Expiration date student has 365 days access to answer questions.
2. Registration, fee, and refund polices
- Registration - Students interested in taking an eReading Chinese class should pay online to sign up. Students also need to purchase one of the textbooks required if they don't have one already.
- Fee - A $50 access fee can be paid online with Zelle or mail a check. Book is cost $10 plus $4.50 for handling and shipping.
- Refund Policy- The $50 access fee and $10 book cost will not be subjected to refund.
eWrite Chinese Class
1. PREREQUISITES AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES (updated on 11/13/2023):
- Basic writing Course - For students who have studied Chinese for 2 to 3 years, know 500-800 characters. Students will write 8 or more simple passages and short essays.
- Intermediate Course - For students who learned 800-1200 characters. Students will write 8 or more essays such as email responses and story narration.
- Advanced Course- For students who know 1200-2000 characters, and have reached or equivalent to a post- AP Chinese level. Students will write 8 or more essays such as reports, literary reviews, short stories, and other higher level essays.
2. SESSIONS, STUDY TIME AND MATERIALS
- Session - eWrite Chinese defines one session as 16 completed assignments. The session duration is entirely self-paced.
- Study Time - Students decide when to begin and end a session. We advise our students to spend around 2 hours a week.
- Course Material - All 16 course materials will be delivered online to enrolled students.
- Assignments - Students need to complete 8 reading and 8 timed writing assignments. After a completed assignment is submitted, it will be graded within 3-5 days.

Assist your district or school with a Chinese reading or writing contest
Basic requirements and objectives for reading or writing competitions: (updated on 3/20/2024)
1). Beginner level reading competition (know at least 300-500 Chinese characters to participate, no age limit)
Targeted to students that have studied Chinese for 2-3 years, and have mastered 300-500 Chinese characters and some basic sentence patterns. For the primary book, choose 1 of the 7 editions of "Selected Essays of the World Chinese Students Composition Competition". The standards are basically the same as those of the North American Yellow River Cup Reading Contest. Registration fee $25 per student; 10% discount per person for groups of 25. For awards, the first, second and third prizes will be granted to 1-3 student(s); the prizes are $50, $25, and $15 respectively; adjusted proportionally based on total participation.
2). Intermediate level reading competition (know at least 500-800 Chinese characters to participate, no age limit)
Targeted to students that have studied Chinese for 3-5 years and have mastered 500-800 Chinese characters and some basic sentence patterns. For the intermediate-level book, choose 1 of the 5 editions of "Shanxi Stories". The standards are basically the same as those of the North American Yellow River Cup Reading Contest, which can be adjusted according to the requirements of the region or school. Registration fee $25 per student; 10% discount per person for a group of 25. For awards, the first, second and third prizes will be granted to 1-3 winner(s); the prizes are $50, $25, and $15 respectively; adjusted proportionally based on total participation.
3). Chinese Writing Contest (know at least 800-1000 Chinese characters to participate, three age groups: elementary, middle and high school)
Targeted to students that have studied Chinese for 3-5 years, master 800-1000 Chinese characters and some basic sentence patterns, and understand basic writing methods. Each region or school can choose the theme and genre independently. The competition judges are composed of 1-2 experts selected by us, and 2-3 teachers selected by the region or school. They will refer to the standards of the Yellow River Cup essay competition, and make a joint blind evaluation. Each group will select the top three winners. Registration fee $50 per student; 10% discount per person for a group of 25. For awards, the first, second, and third prizes will be granted to 1-3 winner(s); the prizes are $50, $25, and $15 respectively; adjusted proportionally based on total participation.
